MAY CALENDAR GIRL REDWORK BLOCK FINISHED....

Well, the rain has set in for the day...so I decided to catch up on some stitching. We've been busy lately splitting & stacking firewood for next Winter (glad that job is done), working in the garden & flower beds and all the farm animal chores, just haven't had much time for crafting. But today, I took the day off.

Here is May Calendar Girl Redwork Block completed....time to move on.

THE MONEY TREE...2013

Wanted to get a picture of it before the blooms start to fall. There is a past post on my blog that tells the story of this plant and where it got it's name.

It still is growing, we have had it for almost 12 years now...wonder just how much taller it will get?

GARDEN 2013 & GUINEAS....

Thought I would share with you all my little hideaway...My Raised Garden. Everything is coming up that I planted...Tomatoes, Spinach, Head Lettuce, Green & Yellow Squash, Garlic, Cucumbers on the Trellis this year. My Strawberries are almost ready to pick, won't be long for a dish of Strawberry Shortcake.

We were going to make the garden bigger this year, but hubby has been having trouble with his big tractor. When that gets fixed, maybe it won't be too late to till it up.

 Same Garden, Different angle....notice the chair...Love sitting there and just soaking up the day's warmth & Nature's Beauty.

And here are some of my Guineas doing what they do best...looking for bugs & weed seeds. I mowed grass yesterday and they love a freshly mowed grass...I do too:)

THE STYROFOAM HEN SCORES A WIN....

New addition to my Chicken family....4 Little Dominiques, they are 2 days old now. I made an incubator from a styrofoam cooler a while back and have been unsuccessful until now. I call it The Styrofoam Hen.

A SNEEK PEEK....JAMESTOWN QUILT BLOCK

Here it is...the start of my Jamestown Quilt. So, that makes two quilts in progress now.
The Double Stars Quilt and this one...and my Farmer's Wife Quilt, well I just can't seem to get interested in it...hopefully I will soon.

WHILE I WAS TAKING A BREAK....

While I was taking a break today from sewing on my Double Star Quilt Blocks, I was searching for my next project. I found this in my stash of fabrics that I had bought a few years ago....more like 5...Why haven't I already finished this beauty of a quilt (I'm saying to myself).

Bet you can't guess the pattern I will be using with this fabulous fabric...I'll give you a hint....It has points!

MY BLACK AUSTRALORP CHICKS UPDATE....

It finally got warm enough outside to move the youngins to their new home.

When I figure out which are pullets or roosters, I'll move some to the Big Hen House. They are 8 Weeks Old now...growing fast. In 3 months it will be time for watching for that first egg!

12 Black Australorps, so far I like this breed.

BEEN A BUSY DAY HERE IN THE COUNTRY...

Hubby & I finished our Kitchen upgrade today...with a 6 foot long Island and some overhead cabinets with an 8 foot long countertop underneath. I so enjoy having more work space, been doing it with a 3 foot square space basically and now I have all this! I keep asking myself, ~Why didn't we do this sooner?~

Then hubby finished the Chicken Tractor...didn't want to make another one from scratch..so we bought a coop from TSC and hubby transformed it into a tractor for me to move around by hand. This will house the Black Autralorps Chicks that are fixing to go outside...they are growing fast.

So' it's been a good day for this ole gal...time for some homemade Potato Soup!

SECOND STAR FOR DOUBLE STAR QUILT.....

Here it is, as promised...second star of the Double Star Quilt I started this week. This also measures 12 inches square...using the same background fabric, different Batik fabric. Remember this is all paper pieced, including the border.

I hope it's not too much Rust color in this quilt...border will probably be a Medium Brown or Green Half Stars, I haven't decided yet.

HERE IT IS, THE FIRST DOUBLE STAR BLOCK...

Made the first block today. This is the large double star that is in this quilt I started today...measures 12 inches square. There at=re two sizes of stars to make...tomorrow I'll try out the smaller version. This quilt is all done by paper piecing, so it will take a while for this treasure to be completed.

This is the Batik fabric I bought a little over a week ago. I have never worked with batiks, but I found out today, they are neat to work with....just expensive to buy.

STARS OF BLUE QUILT....

One of my cousins asked me to make her a quilt...and here it is, finished. STARS OF BLUE...queen sized. I hope she likes it.

CONSIDERING QUILT PATTERN FOR BATIK FABRIC....

For the ones interested...this is the pattern I am considering to use with the Batik Fabric I got yesterday...using the Batik for the stars...just have to decide on a background fabric. Thought about a tea dyed tan color or possibly a chocolate, but then I think I should go with off white.  Previous post has the Batik fabric.

BATIK FABRIC....

Drove to one of my favorite fabric stores today to get some quilting thread...this is what I came home with.
I have never bought Batik fabric till today...Could not resist this bolt. Yes, I bought the whole bolt. I have a quilt in mind for this, just have to decide what background fabric to use with it...any ideas? Quilt design will be stars, my favorite.

FINISHED...INTERLOCKING BLOCKS QUILTS...

These two quilts will be going to my niece for her little girl and boy. I hope they like them.

These were fun to make.

Now on to working on a Queen sized quilt....Stars!

REDWORK MARCH CALENDER GIRL BLOCK....

Here it is, March already. This year is flying by it seems to me. March Calender Girl Block finished. The weatherman said this morning we will see more chances of snow this month than we have had all winter...so I guess the Muff & Scarf are fitting for the month.

MY NEW LITTLE FLUFFS....

Got some new little fluffs for the farm today....12 Black Australorp Chicks. I hope there are a few pullets in this group and they grow up to be a nice family.

I love to hear their little noises...there is one loud one in the bunch...wonder if that's a girl..hope so.

MEET VALENTINO....

Our newest addition to the farm...our little goat was born yesterday, thus the name Valentino. We have more babies to be born very soon. You can tell Spring is around the corner when farm babies arrive.

INTERLOCKING SQUARES....

Ahh, it felt so good to do a little sewing today. I cleaned my sewing room yesterday and today I already started making a mess. Who's the lady that throws her scraps on the floor..yeah that's me too.

Anyways, I found this pattern a while back. It only makes a 6" square...just right for Baby Quilts & Project Linus Quilts I'd say. No sashing in between the squares.

Hopefully tomorrow I will make much progress at sewing. I will keep you all posted on my progress.

BROWN & WHITE COOKIE RECIPE....

These have become my favorite cookie lately...I call them Brown & White Cookies...aka, Molasses Cookies.

I'll share the recipe with you....

MOLASSES COOKIES
3/4 cup Butter, melted
1 cup Brown Sugar
1 Egg
1/4 cup Molasses
2 cups Flour
1 teaspoon Baking Soda
1/2 teaspoon Salt
1 teaspoon Cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon Ground Clove
1/2 teaspoon Ground Ginger

Mix all ingredients as listed...Chill cookie dough for at least 2 hours. Using a small scoop, form dough into balls and place on a cookie sheet using parchment paper.
Bake for approximately 12 minutes at 375*

When cookies have cooled, melt White Chocolate Chips or Almond Bark Chocolate in Microwave for a 1 minute or so. Dip each cookie halfway into your melted chocolate. Or you could just drizzle a little melted White Chocolate making lines on the cookies, if you would like less on them. Let cookies set to let Chocolate harden.

If you don't like White Chocolate, these cookies are very yummy without it.

Time to make a cup of hot tea or pour a glass of ice cold milk....ENJOY!

FEBRUARY SUN BONNET GIRL FINISHED...

She is finished...love working on this. It's hard to keep from stitching way ahead, but I will control myself.

Starting to think how I will sash all the squares...any ideals?
